The History of Mi Hacienda

In 1969, my single mother and I immigrated to the United States. She worked a lot of hours, so I quickly learned to cook for the both of us.

Years later, my wife Guadalupe and I met and discovered our mutual love of cooking. At family reunions and church events, we received many compliments, and we decided that our version of the American dream was to open a restaurant offering authentic Mexican food.

After several years of planning and construction, our dream became a reality in 2002. All five of our children helped with the opening of Mi Hacienda (“My House”) in Darien, and they all still participate to this day.

Now our children are grown, and we are proud that the third generation of our family is becoming involved in Mi Hacienda. The oldest of our 10 grandchildren can be found working alongside us on our busiest days.

We hope you enjoy our authentic Mexican food and family hospitality!
